Megastore supplies boat batteries of all types and sizes. Choosing the right sort will depend on the size of your boat, the electrical needs your boat battery needs to satisfy, and also how often your boat is used. There are three basic types of boat battery: the starter battery, the deep cycle battery and the leisure battery.
Starter batteries are generally the cheapest type of boat battery. A starter battery has only one purpose: to start the engine. Starter batteries are suitable for use on small outboard powered boats and if you use this type of boat only occasionally, such as in the summer or at weekends, a starter battery would be a reasonable choice.
Larger boats have larger needs. If your boat has an electric trolling motor, your boat battery will need to run that. Does your boat have electrical equipment on board? If so, your boat battery will need to power that too. In either case a starter battery won't be suitable. If you intend to use your boat over a long period and you need power for electrical equipment, a deep cycle battery would be more appropriate. The deep cycle battery is more expensive than the starter battery. It's designed to give continuous power for a long period of time.
The leisure battery comes between the two, both in terms of price and in terms of capability. If you need any help in choosing the right sort of battery, contact us and we can advise you.
